Most people pay special attention to their skin during the summer, but rarely in winter. You will see many applying the moisturiser, buffing, and even applying some sunscreen just to protect the skin from the hot weather. Months later, all one does is hide the face/skin under a thick layer of wooly layers, scarf, or thick tights. Your skin is the driest during winter, one of the reasons you need to take particular attention and care for it as well. Outlined below are six tips and tricks on how to take care of your skin in winter.

1. Use a Hydrating Cleanser Instead of Face Wipes

As mentioned earlier, your skin is driest during cold weather, and especially in winter. The central heating and cold weather are among the factors that contribute to dry skin. For this reason, it would be best if you ditched the face wipes for a hydrating/moisturising cleanser. The moisturiser helps keep the skin soft and well moisturised, factors that help your skin look healthy and fresh. Face wipes are known to strip the skin of the much-needed moisture and natural oils, hence should be avoided. According to Nathalie Eleni, a beauty expert, micellar water is much better than these wipes. It is also efficient in skin cell hydration.  Other tips would be to wear gloves to protect your hands from the elements, driving gloves for men and women offer a lot of protection.

2. Apply Face Oil Before Going to Bed

Your skin is more susceptible to dehydration during the night; one of the reasons why you should consider giving it some nourishment. According to Ms. Eleni, applying facial oil to the skin should help the skin retain the much-needed moisture through the night. In addition to this, face oil doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy, hence recommended. Coconut or almond oil will also come in handy and an affordable option for all. Be sure to apply the oil just before going to bed.

3. Use a Good Moisturiser

This is one of the essential skincare investments you should make for your skin. A good moisturiser helps replenish the skin with essential lipids. These lipids are needed to restore hydration and optimal skin health. Be sure to look at the fine print when shopping for a moisturiser. Be keen to look for moisturisers with Vitamin E, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, etc., as these come in handy in keeping the skin protected from both external and environmental factors. Hyaluronic acid contains properties that help keep the skin moisturised for longer, and is exceptionally lightweight.

4. Exfoliate Regularly

Dead skin cells accumulate over time giving you a dull look and feel. These are also known to cause flaking. Exfoliating, however, helps get rid of the dead skin leaving it soft and glowing. Experts recommend going for in-shower exfoliating tools for they come in handy in removing the dead skin. This tool comes with two brushes, one for the harder parts of the skin, such as the feet, and one for extra soft and sensitive skin. Start exfoliating from the feet then work your way up to the face. One of the advantages of exfoliating is the fact that it combats cellulite. 5. Add a Little Tan

There are times when getting even 30 minutes of sunshine is almost impossible. When this happens, you will want to apply a little tan to the same to give the skin a sun-kissed look and feel. 6. Be Active

Spending time outdoors makes our skin have a glowing, smooth look and feel. It however becomes almost impossible to spend time outdoors, forcing many to hibernate under a blanket. Just because it is winter doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stay active. Taking a walk, jogging, or even climbing the stairs helps keep the blood moving. This benefits the skin more than you can imagine.
