Many new recruitment tactics were introduced in 2018. This year, we have seen many organisations adopting and implementing them. I am sure that these tactics will shape the recruitment process in 2019.

Consider Going Mobile

Earlier this year, Google said that they were moving to mobile-first indexing. This has made recruiters acknowledge the importance of search engine optimisation when it comes to the recruiting process. This is something that recruiters did not prioritise in the past. There are two reasons why Google makes changes:

  • To benefit the searcher’s experience
  • To adjust to searcher’s habits

Nowadays, most of the job seekers are searching for jobs on their mobile devices. However, this does not mean that the industry is following suit. While mobile platforms have been around for quite a while, most of the recruiters out there have not adopted the use of mobile platforms.

In a certain study, 45% of job seekers reported using their mobile devices to search for the latest marketing manager jobs at least once daily while 89% of job seekers reported using mobile platforms to search for jobs. It is believed that 16 percent of job applications are submitted through mobile devices. Therefore, if you would like your recruiting strategy to be more effective, you should consider going mobile.

No More Paper Resumes

It seems that the era of the paper resume is over. Organisations have started placing more importance on soft skills. Beyond a paper document, video submissions and social media profiles can demonstrate the first impression more accurately.

For the organisation recruiting employees, this means keeping up with the latest trends and accommodating technologies. For those looking for jobs, this means coming up with an integrated personal brand via digital portfolios, social media profiles, and a personal website (when necessary).

Develop an Attractive Online Profile

A company that wants to attract top talent has to make its workplace attractive for top talent. Social media is a good way to broadcast company culture. Research has shown that 79% of job seekers review social profiles when looking for jobs.

When you choose to broadcast your company’s corporate culture across your social media, ensure that you portray the reality of working for your company in the most accurate way possible. 60% of organisations listed strengthening employer brand as a priority. Your social media, website and online reviews all need to accurately show off your company’s culture.

Flexible Working Conditions

The job market has been impacted by the Gig Economy in many ways. Apart from many workers moving to freelance positions, the Gig Economy has made workers change their expectations.

Research has shown that 65% of employees would opt for contract work if given a chance. This is mainly due to the many benefits of contract work like working from home. According to a survey carried out in 2016 reported that working remotely influenced the decision of 68% of job applicants.

Consider Virtual Reality

There is no shortage of video interview software. As we said earlier, video can accurately demonstrate a first impression.

Video interviews are becoming more and more popular and it seems that they will not be going away any time soon. In addition, virtual reality and augmented reality platforms are now used for interactive hiring needs. Instead of answering the questions that are usually asked, virtual reality is able to show how job applicants respond in practical settings.

Consider Developing Talent Relationship Management

In this competitive job market, Talent Relationship Management has become a very important tool when it comes to the recruitment process. Unfortunately, most of the HR departments out there have not placed importance on the cultivation of existing relationships within the organisation to attract new talent.

History has shown that 40% of the best hires in companies are from within. There is a study that showed that using TRM lead to a 4 percent higher offer acceptance rate. Candidate Relationship Management or CRM, in short, is something that should not be overlooked. Instead, it needs to be implemented with TRM to recruit the best candidates.

Summary

To hire the best candidate or candidates, you need to use modern hiring methods. Posting a job and waiting for people to start applying doesn’t work anymore. Nowadays, the job market needs a more proactive approach from the candidate and the recruiter.
